Tips for writing perfect SEO optimized content in 2019

As we get further into 2019 many things in SEO, have already changed. Along with SEO optimizations, SEO content writing continually grows and changes as Google is getting more and more eager to fulfil the customers’ search query.

We have already been hit with a significant core update in May while many people still haven’t recovered from the last. One thing we have learned though is that no matter what Google throws at us in terms of ranking factors, good quality content and good keyword placement will remain king.

SEO content writing tips

Content is the backbone of every blog and website on the web. If you own or run an online business, then you need good content to educate, inform and impress not just your readers, but also Google.

It is true there was a time not long ago when you could rank many 300-400 word articles with some juicy backlinks and Google would slingshot you to the forefront of the SERP’s. But this has changed now and is no longer the case.

As Google grows and becomes wiser to what searchers want, they are now more determined than ever to find the best and most relevant answer to their users’ question. If you want the best SEO content writing tips in 2019, then keep reading as we explore what will make your organic reach skyrocket.

Content Length – Write More!

Simply writing 4-500-word blog posts and thinking you will rank isn’t going to cut it anymore. Any article that you write, no matter what the niche should be a minimum of 1k words to increase your chances of getting picked up in your favourite search engine.

According to a study done in 2016, the average length of a piece of content found on the first page of Google was 1900 words. Of course writing an article of 4000 words long along isn’t going to be enough to get you to the illustrious first place spot.

Your article needs to answer the customers need for information, as well as being well structured, easy to read and mix that in with Googles other 200 ranking factors.

Googles infamous Panda 4.1 update was designed to penalize short and thin content sites. Google only wants the best for its searchers.

Do Your Keyword Research!

This is the best SEO content writing tip anyone could give you. No matter what you’re writing about, if you don’t prioritize your keyword research there is a high chance you will never even get seen in the first 100 pages of Googles search results, never mind the first page.

Chasing the right keyword is a vitally important aspect of building an online blog or business and gaining organic traffic. Gage your competition level before you even start writing. It may be true that content is king, but if there are thousands of other quality articles targeting the same market, you’re going to struggle.

Long-tail keywords, especially, are what you want to focus on the most. These typically have lower competition, and when a user searches for a long-tail keyword, they are looking for a precise answer, to which you can provide.

Know Your Audience

You need to understand what your audience needs to answer their queries. Are they adults? Teens? Are they after a fully comprehensive answer or are they going to be satisfied with knowing basic information?

SEO content writing is about knowing who your content is for and tailoring it to satisfy their level of understanding.

Research Your Topic

If you intend to write your content for your own blog, then please do your research. There are many writers out there who will work for a very cheap rate, but more often than not they don’t understand the topic and fail to satisfy the searchers need for information.

I recommend you take your keywords and find the top content on Google for them. Research through them all and then do your homework about the actual topic itself.

For example, if your keyword were ‘The Best Horse-riding Saddle’ I would read through all of Google’s top results, as well as reading information on what makes a good saddle, What makes a lousy saddle and I would combine that information into an informative piece.

If you put effort into finding long-tail keywords, it will result in you having a higher chance of getting to the first page of Google.

Structure Your Content

You could hit all the major points in your article, but if it doesn’t make sense, no one will read it. The one content writing tip I will give you about your structure is that your article should read naturally.

Before you start writing you should write down the topic title as well as the critical pieces of information you need to cover. If you have 8 key points and you write 200 words for each point you have just written 1600 words relatively easy!

Remember, don’t focus on writing to impress Google. It never works out well. Write to impress your readers and Google will reward you accordingly.

Don’t Over-optimize Your Keywords

You will not gain any favors in Googles eyes by stuffing your keywords into your content as there is a good chance it reads unnaturally. Your Keyword or words should be around .6 – 1.5% of the total word count, and you should focus on one or two keywords per blog post. I suggest you test different densities.

If you overstuff your keyword, Google will not approve of your tactics and may even penalize your content for it.

On the topics of density though, I will give you one more SEO content writing tip which is sure to help.

Write more blog posts then your competition. If your competition has 100 posts, then you should write 150. This may sound like a lot of work, but the more you write the more keywords you will rank.

This, in turn, means you will be reaching a wider audience and you will have more articles in Googles search results. The results? More organic traffic which of course will lead to more customers.

Optimize Your Tags

Tag optimization is often over-looked as unless you know about SEO then likely you won’t know about how to lay out meta tags. Meta tags tell Googles search bots what your content is about.

Obviously, your content will too. Meta tags, however, is one of Googles many ranking factors and they work alongside your content to make sure your content is answering the searcher’s questions.

There are more SEO content writing tips I could give you, but I should imagine that it will be enough for now. If I had to focus on a couple of tips to write the best SEO optimized content I would focus on:

  • Content length
  • Keywords
  • Structure

Focus on answering the users’ query as much as you can, and the rest will fall into place!
